How are you affected by the media that surrounds you every day? Do you understand how technology works, develops and changes over time? What can you do to use the media more effectively? How can you make the media responsive to you? MEDIA NOW is the first mass communication text to encourage critical thinking about the media and its effects on culture while providing a thorough understanding of how the media technologies develop, operate, converge, and affect our greater society. Unlike other introductory mass communication books, MEDIA NOW prepares you for a career in the expanded field of telecommunications, interactive media, and traditional media industries. MEDIA NOW provides you with a book that will teach you the foundational theories, concepts, and technical knowledge to help you thrive in your chosen career. It has "news you can use" that will guide you to impact the media as much as they impact you.

Integration allows students to see the connection between these variables and the end result."

"MEDIA NOW is undeniably one of the most modern texts, keeping abreast of the times and trends, [and] providing knowledge of onward movements and recent developments in the field of journalism to students of mass communication."
"In the highly competitive Introduction to Mass Communication text market, MEDIA NOW is a solid competitor. The text offers a solid sweep of the content normally covered in this course. The text is written in an accessible fashion and contains ample up-to-date examples to illustrate key concepts. The visuals are ample and placed throughout the text in a way that increases readability. The support materials--including the course website, access to InfoTrac College Edition and the InfoTrac Student Activity Workbook, the Multimedia Manager, and the Media Literacy Workbook--are excellent and packed with teaching tools and ideas in support of the course."
