Although the design methodology proposed in this book is strongly oriented towards the relational data model approach, it does not follow that a Data Base Management System (DBMS) supporting relations is required in order to implement the data structures derived. This book shows that the relational data model approach is of extreme importance because it can be used as a powerful tool with which to develop application oriented as well as enterprise-wide data structures; it is irrelevant whether the available DBMS supports the relational model or only conventional data structures. Introducing fundamental data base principles, the author carefully and systematically follows through using these principles to establish data base design methodologies which are proven successful and have already achieved spectacular results.
