Recent research has attributed "sick buildings" to poor air quality caused by internally produced pollution and the contamination of supply air by the ventilation plant due to inferior maintenance. Inadequate air distribution to various zones of a building can exacerbate the problem and also contribute to thermal discomfort and sickness. This book provides the designers of HVAC systems with up-to-date information on the procedures used for calculating the required outdoor air flow rates for a building taking into consideration fortuitous air flows, occupancy and internally produced contamination. Reference is made to ventilation standards as well as to recent research developments in the field. The book is a useful source of information for engineers, architects, hygienists and building managers who are concerned with the ventilation of buildings and the provision of acceptable indoor air quality.
