About the Author:

Ben Farmer, Hentie Louw and Adrian Napper are all affiliated with the University of Newcastle upon Tyne.

From Library Journal:

This compendium of essays on currrent architectural theory and practice is an ambitious and comprehensive undertaking. Editors Farmer and Louw, both professors at the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, have selected over 100 essays by noted architects, engineers, planners, and historians to examine the nature of contemporary architecture from a variety of perspectives. The essays themselves, which may be read either sequentially or selectively, are organized into six broad sections and cover a range of topics, from housing the poor to the history of wood roof trusses, from improving the walkability of cities to vernacular architecture. The insights are numerous; the cumulative effect is overwhelming. An important reference for libraries with architectural collections.
