9780415567893: Society and Culture Bundle RC: Capitalism, Socialism and Democracy (Routledge Classics)
From the Publisher:

Capitalism, Socialism and Democracy remains one of the greatest works of social theory written in the twentieth Century. Schumpeter's contention that the seeds of capitalism's decline were internal, and his equal and opposite hostility to centralist socialism have perplexed, engaged and infuriated readers since the book's first publication in 1943. By refusing to become an advocate for either position, Schumpeter was able both to make his own great and original contribution and to clear the way for a more balanced consideration of the most important social movements of his and our time.

About the Author:

Joseph A. Schumpeter (1883-1950). Originally born in Moravia in the present-day Czech Republic, Schumpeter was a renowned Economist, Business Theorist and Political Scientist. He has numbered among his pupils Robert Solow, the Nobel Laureate, and former chairman of the Federal Reserve Alan Greenspan.

Descripción Atlantic Publishers & Distributors (P) Ltd, 2010. Softcover. Estado de conservación: New. Capitalism Socialism And Democracy written by Joseph Schumpeter is an unusual book for its time. The author begins with the teachings of Karl Marx. It is also a non-mathematical work when compared to other neo-classical works, and deals with the ideas of capitalism, socialism, and creative destruction. Schumpeter has divided the book into five sections, with each one dealing with the different ideals. For instance, the first section is called The Marxian Doctrine, the next is the section is ?Can Capitalism Survive??, followed by ?Can Socialism Work?? He then goes on to compare and contrast the ideals of socialism and capitalism. Lastly, the author talks about the history and evolution of thought with regard to both capitalism and socialism, thereby highlighting the ?stagnant? nature inherent to socialist thought. The author?s contention is that, when Capitalism reaches its ultimate pinnacle, it will collapse from within, as people will move for a socio-democratic government with some sort of governmental restrictions placed on individual entrepreneurship.
