All aspects of the machine vision system, from optics to project management, are emphasised. Written from a systems engineering perspective, this is not a compendium of all MVE research, but a single self-consistent exposition on the field. Volume one deals with image acquisition, while image processing and machine vision systems are addressed in volumes two and three respectively.
