This book is intended for undergraduate nursing students taking a course in issues and trends, graduate students, and nursing administrators. Using the theme of professionalization, the author presents a variety of issues and trends in nursing. The meanings of the terms profession, professionalism, and professionalization are explored, and nursing's progress in attaining status as a profession is described. The author writes from the perspective that in order to attain professional status nursing must strive for autonomy, accountability, and authority over nursing education and practice.
