9780385612661: The London Eye Mystery

When Aunt Gloria’s son, Salim, mysteriously disappears from a sealed pod on the London Eye, everyone is frantic. Has he spontaneously combusted? [Ted’s theory.] Has he been kidnapped? [Aunt Gloria’s theory.] Is he even still alive? [The family’s unspoken fear.] Even the police are baffled. Ted, whose brain runs on its own unique operating system, and his older sister, Kat, overcome their prickly relationship to become sleuthing partners. They follow a trail of clues across London in a desperate bid to find their cousin, while time ticks dangerously by...

About the Author:

Siobhan Dowd is married and lives in Oxford. She was born in London to Irish parents, but in her youth spent much time in the family home in County Waterford, then Wicklow town. During a seven-year spell living in New York City, she was named one of the "top 100 Irish-Americans" by Irish-America Magazine and AerLingus for her global anti-censorship work with the writers' organization PEN.

From AudioFile:

A disorder similar to Asperger's syndrome renders 12-year-old Ted an unlikely but completely endearing sleuth in this engrossing story. When his cousin disappears at an amusement park, Ted's disability is turned to an advantage as he methodically sets out to find out what happened. With his stilted but appropriately robotic delivery, narrator Alex Kalajzic completely becomes Ted and just as skillfully handles Kat, Ted's brash teenage sister. He skillfully alternates between characters of different ages, accents, and social classes, and is competent with female voices. A compelling story with lots of red herrings combined with Kalajzic's ability to create vivid characters immerses the listener in this exceptional listening experience. M.H.N.
