Adrienne deWolfe believes in following her dreams. The trouble is, the pesky things keep changing. Shortly after her 38th writing award helped her launch a college-level teaching career, she found herself standing on stage, singing Mozart's Requiem - to applause, no less. That wily performance bug, which she thought she'd quashed in high school, returned to lead her on a fabulous new odyssey: helping people heal. Now Adrienne operates a private practice as a holistic healer, specializing in sound therapy. When she isn't playing her harp at local hospitals, she's bribing her cat not to sing with her in public.
Adrienne loves when her mailbox bulges with letters. You can help her stuff it too full for utility bills by writing to PO Box 162252, Austin, TX 78716-2252. Failing that, you can e-mail her at adriennedewolfe@ev1.Excerpt. © Reprinted by permission. All rights reserved.:
Michael’s gaze roamed over her ribbon-bound hair, shimmering like molten copper in the lamplight. "You suffer romantic delusions about me, Eden. I assure you, I’m not the angel I was named after."
"You’re only saying that,” she said softly. “You want me to think less of you. You couldn’t bear it if I tried to hold you up to your own impossible standards."
Her insight was unnerving, almost as unnerving as the realization that the child who'd once bathed his wounds had grown into a woman who could see clear to the charred bottom of his soul. But Michael had never cowered before a worthy opponent, and he wasn't about to start now. He stepped closer. He halted only when his thighs were bare inches from her skirts, when his shoulders towered above hers and she was forced to crane her neck back to meet his gaze. It was a deliberate tactic, one designed to press his physical advantage, and yet, at this proximity, he was forced to breathe her fragrance.
The intoxication of lilies, lavender, and midsummer rain was almost his undoing.
"I'm not afraid of you, Michael."
"You should be, Eden," he said huskily. "Very, very afraid..."
