Love never dies, but can it kill? He never meant to speak to her again. Back in Arbor Falls for a funeral, Special Agent Nick Foster has moved on. He has no plans to stay in his tiny hometown--or to reunite with the beautiful Libby Andrews. His onetime fiancée broke his heart, and what's past should stay buried.
Libby doesn't want his help. Her childhood sweetheart can never know the real reason she ended their engagement three years before. But when a serial killer targets her, she must team up with the rugged agent for her own safety. Something in her past has put her in danger, and the passion they've reignited puts their future in deadly jeopardy.

Her career as an attorney helped Natalie Charles to make THE SEVEN-DAY TARGET very convincing with frighteningly believable developments. Her heroine is a prosecutor, and her beliefs plus the steps she takes to discover who is watching her are realistically depicted. The idea of someone stalking another person with the intention of killing that individual is chilling, and the author terrifyingly brings this plan to life. While I thought the identity of the perpetrator was revealed through several clues, I still was not certain and definitely did not know what cunning scheme this person would try to pull off next. Ms. Charles sets the pace of the action on swift, as events occur suddenly and often without any initial warning.
Libby was in danger. She'd unceremoniously dumped him, cruelly told him that she had no feelings for him. The way she'd returned that ring just now...he'd had to fight his anger. She'd treated their engagement as if it had meant nothing at all. He clenched his fists. She'd dumped him, and still the thought of anyone hurting her made him nearly wild. Not that he was still attracted to her. Definitely not. His primitive caveman self simply hadn't caught on to the fact that she was no longer his, that's all. That explained his decision to call out of work for a few days so he could stand guard beside her. This was a matter of honor, nothing more.
