Neuropathology Techniques is an ideal bench-top manual for all aspects of autopsy and laboratory practice related to neurological disease and injury. The book provides a ready reference for practical laboratory methods to assist pathologists, biomedical scientists and mortuary technicians involved with preparation and processing of tissue removed from the central and peripheral nervous systems. Whilst a great deal of this work is performed in specialised centres, increasingly general pathologists and their colleagues outside these centres are asked to perform autopsies and process tissue related to neurological and muscle disease.
The book includes all aspects of autopsy practice including relevant health & safety issues, as well as laboratory handling of brain, muscle, nerve and ophthalmic specimens and the highly topical subject of specimen retention and storage. Researchers in human and animal neurological diseases will also find essential all the material they need for preparing tissue for histological examination. The contents will also be helpful to all trainees in diagnostic histopathology, mortuary practice and biomedical sciences
This is an extremely well designed book, which will prove essential for diagnostic histopathologists, neuropathologists & forensic pathologists. Mortuary technicians and biomedical scientists working in diagnostic histopathology and neuropathology will want to refer to it constantly. Postgraduate trainees in all these specialities will find Neuropathology Techniques the most useful learning and revision tool available.

This new book fills a longstanding void in the wide range of neuropathology texts available in the market. It bridges the gap between texts of neuroanatomy and neuropathology, and the title does not convey in full the expertise contained within. I feel this book should be on the bench of every laboratory handling neuropathological material, be it for referral or for diagnosis.

'Neuropathology Techniques' presents valuable first-hand knowledge of exactly what is required by general pathologists and neuroscientists to undertake proper and appropriate neuropathological investigation. All chapters are well written, with informative subheadings, colour boxes for important methods, classifications, and results, and generally high-standard colour illustrations of both macroscopic and histological materials. This important and hitherto unique collection of neuropathological techniques will be of great help for both experienced neuropthologists and general pathologists or neuroscientists and, therefore, should be on the shelf of every one who is interested and working in neuropathology and related fields.

A valuable and well-presented practical guide to neuropathological techniques... It is written with a practical focus, and is clearly presented.

Dawson and co have presented exceptionally well illustrated guides to any examination technique relevant to neuropathology. I would recommend this book to trainee histopathologists as well as neuropathologists, and think that there are many chapters which will be of interest to forensic pathology trainees as well.
This is a well-presented book, and given its solid feel should have a good shelf life in use. It is well written and there is a judicious use of tables. The use of abundant, high-quality colour images is both illustrative and enhances the appearance. In addition to practising neuropathologists, the book will be of particular interest to pathology trainees, biomedical scientists and mortuary staff. It will also be of great value to the general histopathologist dealing with cases with a neurological aspect. This is therefore a book that I would warmly recommend as meriting a place in every pathology department.
It is a pleasure to review such a well produced and executed book as this and particularly whne the subject area is one of interest and approache aspects ofthe subject from a new perspective.
I believe that all trainees in histopathology would benefit from having the book available not only during a specialist attachment but also when working in the post-mortem room.
