The first volume opens with one of Barbara Wootton's finest contributions on crime and the criminal law. Elsewhere the relationship between law and morality is analysed, the attractions of crime are considered, and attention is firmly drawn to the criminality of motorists. The Community Service Order, now well established, was Wootton's brain-child, the growing success of which delighted her.
