Sinopsis

Excerpt from Elements of Optical Mineralogy: An Introduction to Microscopic Petrography; With Description of All Minerals Whose Optical Elements Are Known and Tables Arranged for Their Determination Microscopically

Probably no words are needed to justify the exclusive use of the Miller symbols in referring to crystal faces and forms.

Special thanks are due to Professor U. S. Grant, of North western University, for critical suggestions. And for the labora tory illustrations of Part I, which in the main are adopted from his manuscript notes.

Professor C. E. Mendenhall, of the University of Wisconsin, kindly revised the chapter devoted to the phenomena of light. And to him the authors are indebted for some exact definitions of the movements of light.
