Críticas:

Emma Donoghue's writing is superb alchemy, changing innocence into horror and horror into tenderness. Room is a book to read in one sitting. When it's over you look up: the world looks the same but you are somehow different and that feeling lingers for days (Audrey Niffenegger, author of THE TIME TRAVELER'S WIFE)

Room is one of the most profoundly affecting books I've read in a long time. Jack moved me greatly. His voice, his story, his innocence, his love for Ma combine to create something very unusual and, I think, something very important . . . Room deserves to reach the widest possible audience (John Boyne, author of THE BOY IN THE STRIPED PYJAMAS)

I've never read a more heart-burstingly, gut wrenchingly compassionate novel . . . As for sweet, bright, funny Jack, I wanted to scoop him up out of the novel and never let him go ( Daily Mail)

This is a truly remarkable novel. It presents an utterly unique way to talk about love, all the while giving us a fresh, expansive eye on the world in which we live ( New York Times Book Review)

Startlingly original and moving . . . Endearing and as utterly compelling as The Lovely Bones ( Scotsman)

This book will break your heart . . . It is the most vivid, radiant and beautiful expression of maternal love I have ever read ( Irish Times)

I loved Room. Such incredible imagination, and dazzling use of language. And with all this, an entirely credible, endearing little boy. It's unlike anything I've ever read before (Anita Shreve)

Reseña del editor:

Jack is five. He lives with his Ma. They live in a single, locked room. They don't have the key. Jack and Ma are prisoners. 'This book will break your heart ...It is the most vivid, radiant and beautiful expression of maternal love I have ever read' - "Irish Times". 'Startlingly original and moving ...Endearing and as utterly compelling as "The Lovely Bones"' - "Scotsman". 'I've never read a more heart-burstingly, gut wrenchingly compassionate novel ...As for sweet, bright, funny Jack, I wanted to scoop him up out of the novel and never let him go' - "Daily Mail". 'This is a truly remarkable novel. It presents an utterly unique way to talk about love, all the while giving us a fresh, expansive eye on the world in which we live' - "New York Times Book Review".

Descripción 2011. Paperback. Estado de conservación: New. 416 pages. English maybe old book Old Book A small room, with a single skylight and a television set. That makes up the world for Jack, along with his beloved Ma. His perception of the world is from what he sees on TV. In fact he does not even know that there is a larger world outside. That is the life Jack has known all his young life, and has been the world for his Ma for the last seven years, since the terrible day Old Nick nabbed her when she was on her way to the college library. The entire story though, is told from the point of view of the five-year old child. The television offers him a view to the world, but to him, it is not real, it is like each channel offers a view into a different planet. Ma and Jack are visited each night by Old Nick. For the duration of the visit, Jack shuts himself up in the wardrobe. Ma has to willingly put up with these nightly visits to ensure the continued supply of food and other needs for herself and for her son. Ma keeps Jack’s body and mind healthy through physical workouts, telling him stories, teaching him a little about the outside world. Their daily routine consists of exercising by running around the little room and futile screaming sessions at night through the skylight for help that never arrives. Ma realizes one day that Old Nick has lost his job. Fearing what he might do next, she decides it is time that she made an attempt at escaping her prison with Jack. She forms a plan which relies heavily on the young boy’s courage and wit. But, if they escape, can Jack make the adjustment to the real world? The room has been his home, his safe haven, his world up to then. But Ma does not have time to worry about all that she knows she has to take him away from Old Nick soon. Room, published in 2010, was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize. About Emma Donoghue Emma Donoghue is an Irish-born writer and historian.
