What does it take to make life work -- really work? Simplicity, for starters. Stripping off the non-essentials and concentrating on the things that really matter. The Naked Life peels away life's outer wrappers and brings us down to the skin. It's full of humour, inspiration, and cut-to-the-chase advice on some key life issues, such as: How do I manage my money? How do look after my health? What kind of parenting really works? How can we stay friends with God? How can I maximize the potential of my working life? How can I stay married to the same person for life and really enjoy it -- sex and all? This book is meant to be scribbled in, underlined, whatever it takes to move the three essential points in every chapter off the paper and into daily life. It's all about closing the gap between the life God promises and the one we're experiencing. Ready to get naked? Then open this book and read on.

You can scribble in the margins, fold down the corners of the pages and underline the best bits in red. You can even rip pages out or stick them on the wall if you want to. Well, why not? After all, you paid good money for it. Buying this book is easy enough, but the real cost comes in owning its principles. Living it out will take a lifetime. My hope is that the script you hold in your hands, and in which you are about to take the lead role, will prove an essential and memorable guide for your life. And this is your life, not mine to live for you. What you choose to do in between those two dates, your birth and your death, is largely up to you. So why not make your one-time shot at life the best you can? You may well spend your life working, but can you ever make your life work? I mean really work? This book is designed to inspire, train and motivate you to do just that. Why The Naked Life? Simple really. I want to strip life down to its barest of essentials. Strip away all the clever ideas, theories and endless philosophies and talk with you straight. My aim is to get rid of all the self-help hype and boil life down to its nuts and bolts. You will discover practical instructions that are so doable, you can start today. * How do I manage my money? * How do I look after my health? * What kind of parenting really works? * What do women really want? * How can we stay friends with God? * How can I maximize the potential of my working life? * How am I wired up? * How do I put relationships right when they go so wrong? * What kind of an old person do I want to be? * How can I stay married to the same person for life and really enjoy it -- sex and all? You don't even have to start this book at the beginning. After all, most books never get read cover to cover. People forget the argument from one chapter to the next, so they give up. But with this book, you can read just one chapter and then put it down, not worrying that you'll have to backtrack to keep up. Each short chapter stands alone but ultimately joins with the others to help you find a way of living that will give you the life you've always wanted. If by the end you have an increased passion for life and for squeezing the best out of every moment, and are equipped with some clear roadmaps that show you how, then I have served my purpose. The other refreshing thing about The Naked Life is that the author is not an annoyingly impressive expert but a stumbling fellow struggler. So I invite you to join me in living life, The Naked Life, together. Are you ready to bare all? Par t 1 GETTING NAKED WITH GODGOD Kissing in the Coffee Shop How to stay friends with God NAKED LIFE I love the French language. It is so expressive. It has that certain 'I don't know what' about it. And the French themselves are a nation of great romantics. After all, 'Je t'aime' sounds so much more expressive than our 'Oi Sharon . . . gissa kiss.' As I write this, l'amour is in the air. I'm supping on a small decaf americano in the midst of a bustling trendy coffee shop just off London's Regent Street. You know the sort of place, where the tea lady has been replaced with a trained barista. A young couple are sitting opposite me. You couldn't get a cigarette paper between them, they are sitting that close. They peck intermittently at each other's lips like hungry birds at a bag of nuts hanging in a winter garden. I wonder to myself if they will display that same affection when they are old and grey and the air smells less of the aroma of freshly ground coffee beans and more of commodes and Sanatageon tablets. I get to thinking that every man must remember his first kiss and his first car (probably in reverse order). My mind went back to my first kiss. To be honest, no one had prepared me for that moment and, consequently, it turned out to be a monumental disaster, mainly because I missed. I made the mistake of closing my eyes and thereby didn't notice that I had leaned my head the same way as hers. We bashed noses very hard. The bleeding eventually stopped, by which time the moment was gone. Luckily we got the moment back again a few days later. Now twelve years and three kids on, the rest has become history. As I watch these two young lovebirds sitting opposite, I genuinely hope I never lose that same abandonment and romance of my first flush of love. 'But you walked away from your first love -- why? What's going on with you, anyway?' (Revelation 2:4 MSG). Can you hear the sadness in God's voice? Maybe there was a time when you promised him everything. Do you remember? Think back to when you first embraced God. You said he would be the leader from now on, not you. Your money, your future, your hopes and dreams, your heartfelt affection and love, your life itself -- all his. But now, What's going on with you, anyway? You used to talk a lot together about everything, but now it's only in a crisis. You used to read his love letters with a joy and a hunger, but it's been a while since you did that. You used to tell the world about the new love in your life who has stolen your heart, but now there would be nothing to tell even if anyone asked. You used to chase community with other God-lovers, but now church is just a chore. If that rings true then what am I to do? 'Turn back!' the writer goes on to say. 'Recover your dear early love. No time to waste' (Revelation 2:5 MSG). HOW TO MAKE IT WORK So let's agree not to waste any more time. It's been too long already, hasn't it? Here are three ways to kick-start your love affair with heaven again.
