Bichat avait ouvert une voie féconde en soumettant a l'ana lyse les systèmes et les tissus, dans le but d'arriver à la deter mination des éléments qui les composent. Mais il n'avait procédé à cette analyse qu'avec des moyens insuffisants. Son oeuvre, grande par la pensée qui l'inspira, et grande aussi par les résultats déjà obtenus, n'était en réalité cependant qu'une prem1ere ébauche. Il appartenait à ses successeurs de marcher sur ses traces et de compléter son oeuvre.
