Sinopsis

Excerpt from A Vindication of the Strictures on the Review of Dr. Spring's Dissertation on the Means of Regeneration, in the Christian Spectator for 1829, in Reply to the Reviewer and Evangelus Pacificus

That the Reviewer, in consequence of objections with which he had been pressed, did, in his concluding number, in some re spoots, vary his statements, appeared to me perfectly evident. But as he retracted nothing which he had previously said, but endeavored to make the impression on the minds of his readers, that he had taken the same ground through the whole discus sron; it was perfectly proper to point out the inconsistencies ih to which he had fallen. This I attempted to do in my Appendix In his reply, I had reason to expect that he would either recon cile these apparent inconsistencies, or frankly. Retract. But I cannot find that he has done either He retracts nothing; but insists that his last statements are in perfect accordance with the whole tenor of (his) preceding remarks. He will have no causeto complain, therefore, if I persist in bringing different parts of his work together, that the reader may judge as to their perfect accordance.

Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the theological debate surrounding the nature of regeneration, revealing the opposing viewpoints of the author and an anonymous reviewer. The author argues that sinners are incapable of using the means of regeneration, defining it as a divine act rather than a human choice. In contrast, the reviewer proposes that sinners can participate in the process through a series of mental acts that lead to a preference for God. The author challenges this view, questioning whether the sinner's affections and motivations can truly change before regeneration has occurred. The book delves into the concepts of selfishness, desire, and moral agency, examining the extent to which human nature is driven by self-interest. The author's insights provide a nuanced understanding of the complexities of human motivation and the nature of spiritual transformation.
