9780224097130: Gerda Taro
Críticas:

"[A] lively, richly illustrated book." (Lorna Scott Fox Times Literary Supplement)

"What sets this biography apart is the way in which it unpicks Taro and Capa's creative and romantic relationship, showing, in the process, how integral she was to his development… With two films about Capa and Taro's relationship in the offing, it may be an opportune time to acquaint oneself with this well-researched, and meticulously recreated, story of their overlapping lives before the myth takes over." (Sean O’Hagan Observer)

"What makes the book come alive, perhaps inevitably, are the photographs of [Taro] and Capa... They are a remarkable testimonial to two young photographers whose extraordinary talent it was to convey war at its most immediate, intimate and brutal." (Caroline Moorehead Literary Review)

"Rogoyska does some good detective work and the result is an engaging, visually stimulating read." ( Amateur Photographer)

"Jane Rogoyska charts the course of Gerda Taro’s life, revealing much new material, illustrated by some truly great photography, some of which has never been seen" ( Black and White Photography)

Descripción Jonathan Cape. 1 Cloth(s), 2013. hard. Estado de conservación: New. In 1934 Paris, Jewish émigré Gerda Pohorylles met Hungarian political exile André Friedmann. They became lovers and photographic partners, and together sold their work under the persona of Robert Capa, a successful American photographer, while she became his agent, Gerda Taro. In 1937 Taro was killed covering the Spanish Civil War—the first female war photojournalist to die in battle—yet she seemed destined to remain a footnote in Capa's biography. Then in 2007 a suitcase turned up in Mexico, filled with thousands of negatives by both photographers, revealing that numerous photos attributed to Capa were, in fact, the work of Taro. This heavily illustrated book traces Taro's life and work and explores her complex relationship with Capa."What makes the book come alive, perhaps inevitably, are the photographs of [Taro] and Capa. They are a remarkable testimonial to two young photographers whose extraordinary talent it was to convey war at its most immediate, intimate and brutal."—Literary Review 240. Descripción Vintage Publishing, United Kingdom, 2013. Hardback. Estado de conservación: New. 266 x 218 mm. Language: English . Brand New Book. In Paris in 1934, a young and beautiful Jewish emigree, Gerda Pohorylles, met a Hungarian political exile, Andre Friedmann. They reinvented themselves as the photographers Gerda Taro and Robert Capa - and he would become the most important photojournalist of his generation. When Gerda was killed in the Spanish Civil war at the age of twenty-six, Robert Capa was her most notable mourner - his grief was beyond control. Her funeral drew crowds of thousands and she became a hero of the political left. Despite the legend that was built around her, she subsequently became a mere footnote in Capa s story. Seventy years after her death a long-lost suitcase was discovered in Mexico, containing thousands of negatives by Capa and Taro. Most astonishingly of all, the Mexican suitcase showed that photographs that had been attributed previously to Capa were, in fact, the work of Taro. Jane Rogoyska s book will trace Taro s life and reveal the depth of her relationship with Capa. Charismatic and extraordinary, they epitomised one of the most tumultuous periods of the century.
