"She came late and she sped away before the end to start people talking about her," said Buttercup. "And her slippers!" said Berry-bright. "Was it noticed, I wonder, that her slippers were bronzecolored? That one should come to the ball not wearing grass-green slippers was an affront to the Chamberlain who had arranged everything to bring out the gold on the ground." "Nobody seemed to notice that she spoiled the whole ball. Everything was going very agreeably before she came in," said Buttercup.
