9780198718499: Tort Law

Hit the ground running with the best-selling tort law textbook from leading academics Kirsty Horsey & Erika Rackley.

Are you new to tort law and seeking to understand its complexities? This textbook provides a lively, insightful and thought-provoking account which assumes no prior knowledge. As well as comprehensive coverage of the legal concepts and case law, there are a range of carefully chosen features to develop understanding including annotated judgments and statutes, diagrams, and problem questions in each chapter.

Do you want to become a reflective and critical thinker? This book will help you not just to learn but rather to understand tort law, and to think about why the law is the way it is and how it could be different. Make your studies interesting and intellectually stimulating with questions raised throughout the book, including in the 'counterpoint' and 'pause for reflection' features.

Do you want to take your studies further and engage with current issues? The new edition includes some of the latest research, policy, and debate. The discussion continues beyond the textbook too: there are video clips from recent news items and links to topical sites on the Online Resource Centre and you can follow the author Twitter feed for updates and comment.

Review:

Review from previous edition: "A winning formula - Horsey and Rackley cut decisively to the primary material that students need to know whilst also providing deep and analytical content."

--Dr James GH Griffin, Senior Lecturer, University of Exeter

"Provides a very good insight into the contextual issues surrounding tort law."

--Shilan Shah-Davis, Senior Lecturer, University of the West of England.

"Lively, accessible, well-pitched; Horsey and Rackley is the best in the market."

--John O'Leary, Senior Lecturer and LLB Course Leader, Anglia Ruskin University

"Tort Law is surprisingly enjoyable to read with complex legal points being distilled into short and manageable sections. It shakes off the airs and graces of other texts by using plain English and is constantly posing interesting points, and counter-points, on this vast area of law.[...] In
particular, excellent features include the 'pause for reflection' and 'counter-point' boxes appearing throughout the text, and the annotated copies of important statutes."

--Student Law Journal

Review from previous edition: "Clearly written ... allows all students to understand tort while enabling stronger students to think critically and challenge traditional approaches."

--Avis Whyte, Senior Research Fellow and Senior Lecturer, Westminster School of Law

"Very impressed: the authors explain the complexities clearly without sacrificing depth. An excellent combination of legal analysis and contextual discussion."

--Colm O'Cinneide, Lecturer in Law, University College London

"Horsey and Rackley is very good and clearly written; the 'pause for reflection' sections, followed by questions, work extremely well."

--Jose Miola, Senior Lecturer in Law, University of Leicester

"This book is ideal for any undergraduate new to tort. Its pedagogical features encourage students to reflect as they learn."

--Dr Rebecca Wong, Senior Lecturer in Law, Nottingham Law School

"I very much like the book's style. It's informative and encourages broader thinking - something lecturers constantly try to do."

--Sarah Flanagan, undergraduate law student, University of Plymouth
