The Get Writing! Red Ditty Books are followed by seven levels of Get Writing! Books. The writing activities build on the reading activities that children have completed, helping them to develop ideas and vocabulary for writing. In the Get Writing! Red Ditty Books, children complete structured, engaging writing activities which are closely linked to their reading. For each of the three Ditties in the linked reading book there are 'Handwriting review', 'Complete a sentence', 'Hold a sentence' and 'Fred Fingers' (spelling review) activities. These provide a guided introduction to writing words and whole sentences and reinforce children's knowledge of Speed Sounds Set 1. There are also reward star pages for children to celebrate their progress. Teaching notes are provided on pages 2 and 3 of the books.
