Sinopsis
Directing the Choral Music Program is a comprehensive introduction to developing and managing choral music programs from the elementary through the high-school level. Designed primarily as a choral methods textbook for the undergraduate music education curriculum, it will also be of interest to choral directors. The book is structured around three basic units: the administrative process, choral planning, and choral rehearsing. In addition to core topics―including recruitment and auditioning, classroom management, vocal development, and curriculum and performance planning―it covers many subjects not included in other texts, such as student discipline, philosophy of choral music education, and the history of choral conducting. It also features chapters on directing show choirs and musicals; organizing choir tours, festivals, and contests; working with changing voices; and developing sight-reading skills and theoretical understanding.
Directing the Choral Music Program incorporates study and discussion questions, numerous illustrations and musical examples, lists of recommended reading and web sites, a variety of class projects, and lists of choral repertory and class materials. Broad in scope and practical in orientation, this book provides a solid basis for a career in choral directing.

Biografía del autor
Kenneth H. Phillips, Professor Emeritus at The University of Iowa, is a graduate of Westminster College (BM), West Virginia University (MM), and Kent State University (Ph.D.). An award-winning researcher and teacher, Dr. Phillips is the author of four books--TEACHING KIDS TO SING (Cengage), BASIC TECHNIQUES OF CONDUCTING (Oxford University Press), DIRECTING THE CHORAL MUSIC PROGRAM (OUP), and EXPLORING RESEARCH IN MUSIC EDUCATION AND MUSIC THERAPY (OUP)--as well as more than 100 reviews, chapters, and professional journal articles. Professor Phillips has been honored with three outstanding teaching awards from The University of Iowa and is recognized by the National Association for Music Education as one of the nation's most accomplished music educators. A recipient of the Robert M. McCowen Memorial Award for Outstanding Contribution to Choral Music, he holds the Distinguished Music Alumni Award from Kent State University and serves as an honorary board member of the Lowell Mason Foundation. Dr. Phillips has presented workshops throughout the United States and in Australia, Canada, China, and New Zealand.
