Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary is the world's best selling learner s dictionary, having sold 35 million books worldwide. It is aimed at non-native speakers, with the first edition published over 65 years ago. Summary Of The Book The book first appeared in 1942 under the tile, Idiomatic And Syntactic Dictionary in Japan. It was written by Albert Sydney Hornby, a teacher of English Studies, as a guide to non-native English readers. Later, it was published under the current title of Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary. Now in its eighth edition, the book contains a 1000 new words and many useful linguistic resources. Academic Word List words are highlighted in the dictionary, and the Oxford 3000 wordlist helps students quickly learn the most important words in the language. Synonyms and topic collocation notes help students add new words more easily to their vocabulary by associating them with other words and the topics they refer to.
