This is an excellent book, bringing the experience of a specialist clinician, and a little of the mystery of the neuropsychological assessment into the reach of general clinicians with an interest in cognitive assessment. In the UK core medical training, there is virtually no mention of cognitive neurology. It hardly appears in the MRCP(UK) either. This is staggering given the increasing prevalence and dementia of dementia, worldwide and specifically in the UK. Prof. Hodges' brief guide will therefore be enormously useful to junior physicians who wish to have a sound overview of the cognitive assessment, written by one of the most well respected experts in the world. Unlike other guides, it is written in easily accessible language, and does not have an undue emphasis on mnemonic functions subserved by the medial temporal lobe (notwithstanding the incredible importance of Alzheimer's disease in this area).
