Taxes are an elemental component of any investment, and the manner in which a stock, bond, or other financial vehicle is treated at tax time can often spell the difference between a profit and a loss. In recent years, however, as tax laws and investment environments changed seemingly as often as the seasons, reliable, in-one-place information has become difficult if not impossible to find."Investment Taxation" contains all of today's most up-to-date and essential rules and practices, all in a format that is as easy to read as it is to reference.Whether you are an active investor seeking answers on the tax treatment of particular financial instruments or a financial professional looking to expand your knowledge, this clear and concise book will help you understand: Key investment components of the Internal Revenue Code, including the Jobs and Growth Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2003 Tax; treatment of stock dividends and distributions, bond interest and redemption, options and warrants, and more; Techniques for limiting - and in some cases eliminating - the taxes paid on major investment classes; Effects of the alternative minimum tax on incentive stock options, tax shelters, and other instruments; Definitions of investment losses, and those which do - and do not - qualify for tax deductions. Taxation of gains and losses is an integral aspect of a particular investment. Unfortunately, it is an aspect that is too often ignored until the tax bill comes due. "Investment Taxation" ensures that you will always have ready access to the vital tax information you need to make advantageous, tax-smart decisions, choices that will maximize your or your client's investment success over both the short and long term.
