Original press material for the 1972 debut album from Stephen Stills' band Manassas, appropriately titled "Manassas." The first formal documentation of Stills' return to playing in a band after 2 years as a solo artist, following the 1970 breakup of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. Stills met (by chance) Chris Hillman of the Flying Burrito Brothers, whose band was undeniably financially strapped, and invited him and two other members of Burrito, guitarist Al Perkins and fiddler Byron Berline, down to Florida for a jam session. Along with members of Stills' touring band (drummer Dallas Taylor, bassist Calvin "Fuzzy" Samuels, keyboardist Paul Harris, percussionist Joe Lala), the group mixed blues, funk, country, Latin, and rock elements, and soon had enough material for a double-LP release. The group called themselves "Manassas," with respect to Stephen Stills' interest in the American Civil War, and the location of the group's first photo shoot (seen here in 2 stills), Manassas, Virginia. The album charted on Billboard's "Top LP's" chart, eventually reaching #4. The band would record a second album, "Down the Road," the following year, featuring Joe Walsh and Bobby Whitlock, but was met with only moderate success, and the group disbanded shortly thereafter.Including are 8 x 10 black-and-white stills (2), and corner-stapled biographical descriptions of the band and its members, on mimeograph rectos. Light curling and toning overall, else Near Fine. N° de ref. de la librería 133269
