Descripción:

69pp. The book details the history and publications of the iconic Lecram-Servant Parisian publishing house, from the early editions of Guiraudet & Jouaust, and the 1870 Franco-Prussian war and the clandestine editions of "La Gazette des Absents" which were distributed by carrier pigeons and balloons, to the Twentieth Century when the premises were taken over by Herbert Clarke who printed James Joyce's 'Pomes Penyeach' and the first edition of 'This Quarter', a seminal magazine edited by Ezra Pound. The Vendome Press was also printed and published from these premises as were many of Jack Kahane's Obelisk Press books, especially when the premises were taken over by Marcel Servant in 1931. Originally published in 1939 in a small limited edition as '1839-1939 - CENT ANS D'IMPRESSION et D'EDITION 338 RUE St HONORÉ PARIS', by Guy Servant, [with the collaboration of George Frederic LEES], [Lecram-Servant, 338 Rue Saint-Honoré, Paris], Lees's translation, entitled 'Ultima and After', published by the Vendome Press, followed in the same year. Both these original editions are extremely scarce. This book is one of 25 facsimiles created by the Handsack Press, including photographs of the original engravings and portraits of Servant and Herbert Clarke and the preface by Lucien Lamoureux. A mint copy in stiff card covers. Large 8vo. N° de ref. de la librería
