1628 Apuleius on Platonic Greek Philosophy PLATO Latin Neoplatonism Occult Magic Apuleius (c. 124 – c. 170 AD) initiate in several cults Apuleius (c. 124 – c. 170 AD) was a Latin-language prose writer. He was a Numidian Berber who lived under the Roman Empire and was from Madaurus (now M'Daourouch, Algeria). He studied Platonist philosophy in Athens, travelled to Italy, Asia Minor, and Egypt and was an initiate in several cults or mysteries. The most famous incident in his life was when he was accused of using magic to gain the attentions (and fortune) of a wealthy widow. Plato (ca. 428 – 348 BC) was a philosopher in Classical Greece and the founder of the Academy in Athens, the first institution of higher learning in the Western world. He is widely considered the most pivotal figure in the development of philosophy, especially the Western tradition. Unlike nearly all of his philosophical contemporaries, Plato's entire œuvre is believed to have survived intact for over 2,400 years. This work is an outline and commentary on the physics and ethics of Plato with some important events in Plato’s life. We find this same book for sale elsewhere for $1,200! Main author: Apuleius.
