"The Beat Officer's Companion" has set the standard for UK police books for more than 20 years. Designed to aid the recall and interpretation of the growing amount of legislation on which UK police officers must base their decisions. This pocket-sized book is the leading practical guide for operational officers and has been completely revised to reflect the changes brought about by recent legislation.

The author, Gordon Wilson, joined Durham Constabulary in 1966. He transferred to Derbyshire Constabulary traffic department on promotion to inspector in 1978. While in that post he wrote the first edition of The Traffic Officer's Companion. This was shortly followed by The Beat Officer's Companion. In 1984 he was promoted to superintendent on transfer to Warwickshire Constabulary. He is now retired from the service and works full-time editing, updating and improving the content of both books.
