It would be interesting for an ambitious reader to compare this revised edition of 2001 with the first edition of 1982, line by line, page by page, to see exactly what revisions were made by Professor Scruton, and where he might have "retrenched" his earlier position. Seeing how other people grow and change is a good way for us to grow and change, hopefully for the better and not the bitter (if you follow my excursion into Nietzschean ressentiment).
