Two Volumes. Montreal: John Lovell, 1870. First edition. Blue-green cloth, spine ruled and lettered in gilt, front cover lettered in gilt script. Brown coated end papers. Some chipping to lower spines, shelf wear to edges and a bit of foxing, back cover of Volume 2 spotted and discolored, one signature starting in Volume 1; a very good set otherwise. The author, whose full name was Ellen Edith Alice McGregor Stalker Ross, came to Canada from Scotland in the early 1850s. She was the author of the novel VIOLET KEITH (1868), and several others. Copies of this novel are known in brown, maroon and blue cloth.
