First edition. Hispanic Studies Textual Research and Criticism Volume 11. 438 pages. Cloth. Fine in like dustjacket. With notes and an introduction, this is an edition of two medieval Spanish songbooks which can be seen to have a relationship to each other through coincident poetry: both contain poetry by Montoro not found in other cancioneros and in the same order, and there are indications that both cancioneros were using the same exemplar or booklet containing the Montoro poetry. There are other examples of poetry coincident in the two volumes. SV2 is by two distinct hands, both characterstic of late-Gothic Spanish of the last quarter of the 15th century. There is no clue to the compiler of LB3, but it can be stated to be a pro-Isabeline cancionero from the early 1480s, with a strong anti-Henry IV character in its poetry and prose. Spain is one of our specialities, many more in stock, an image of the cover is available on request. We have 32 years experience in bookselling, so you may order with confidence.
