Staplebound. Condición: Fair-good. Octavo, 32pp., illustrated. A fair to good copy in the publisher's stapled wraps. Page block, while intact, is separated from the wrappers, and laid in. Some stains, juvenile pencil writing, and chips and short tears to extremities, but a complete, readable copy. A volume of recipes purportedly by "Aunt Julia" (an "Aunt Jemima"-style stereotype of a Black female cook), this volume was almost certainly written or compiled by white staff of the Standard Oil Company. A ehite box on the front wrap contains the details of Wisenhunt's Esso Station in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Likely, these kinds of cook books were sold at various Esso stations throughout the American south and elsewhere. Though probably produced in large numbers, we located just a handful of separately listed holdings in OCLC. Though undated, there are a few advertising images of automobiles whhich were cetainly produced before World War II. Uncommon.

Seventh Printing, September 1990. This copy is sturdily bound in finely woven pictorial-designed cloth boards with a bright black lettering (title) along the spine. The red lettering at the top of the spine (Julia Child) and at the bottom (Knopf) are sun-faded. Orange endpapers; very clean and tight throughout. Virtually unread. In the original white dust jacket with copper borders at the top and bottom and the $50.00 price at the top of the front flap. A vintage classic signed by Julia Child: Signed and inscribed: "To Robin (underlined) Julia Child" on the half title page. Julia Carolyn Child (born McWilliams(1912 2004) was an American chef, author, and television personality. She is recognized for bringing French cuisine to the American public with her debut cookbook, Mastering the Art of French Cooking, and her subsequent television programs, the most notable of which was The French Chef, which premiered in 1963. In 1963, the Childs built a home near the Provence town of Plascassier in the hills above Cannes on property belonging to co-author Simone Beck and her husband, Jean Fischbacher. The Childs named it "LaPitchoune", a Provençal word meaning "the little one" but over time the property was often affectionately referred to simply as "La Peetch". The three would-be authors initially signed a contract with publisher Houghton Mifflin, which later rejected the manuscript for seeming too much like an encyclopedia. Finally, when it was first published in 1961 by Alfred A. Knopf, the 726-page Mastering the Art of French Cooking was a best-seller and received critical acclaim that derived in part from the American interest in French culture in the early 1960s. Lauded for its helpful illustrations and precise attention to detail, and for making fine cuisine accessible, the book is still in print and is considered a seminal culinary work. (Wikipedia).
