An original, complete issue of 16 pages dated June 3, 1882 -- On page 356 it is noted that on May 9, 1882 patent # 257,677 was issued to T.A. EDISON for "Telephone", this is a historic event and highly desireable to collectors of Edison's work and scientific events -- Other items of note with engravings are: Front page "Witherell and Vary's Furnace for Roasting, Desulphurizing, and Chloridizing ores", page 346 "Brophy's Fire Alarm Box", page 350 "Improved Portable Engine", page 351 "Silver Filigree Box", plus many others -- publisher proclaims their publication to be "A Weekly Journal of Practical Information, Art, Science, Mechanics, Chemistry, and Manufactures". -- Frank Luther Mott, winner of The Pulitzer Prize for his History of American Magazines, states that "The Scientific American had a significance--at least for its first sixty or seventy years--unapproached in kind and effect by any other periodical".
