WHETHER it is because of a heatwave or because of a period of extremely cold weather with blizzards and freezing fog, the weather is always the subject of the Englishman's conversation. It often appears to be unpredictable, changes occurring with a rapidity that often outwits even the professional meteorologist. Alfred Glenn, who has been operating his own meteorological station at his home near Ipswich for many years, believes that however freakish it might sometimes seem, the weather does conform to certain recurring patterns. Using records built up over a very long period both at his own station and at others spread across the region, he sets out the patterns to which the East Anglian weather sometimes conforms. Not only does he provide simple rules by which one can predict the possibility of weather changes but he has good advice for those considering establishing their own weather recording stations. Size: Sm 4to.

Hard Cover. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good. Photographs, Illustrations Ilustrador. Dust jacket complete but price clipped. White cloth with bright gilt titling on spine. Couple of ink marks on ffep. 200 pages clean and tight. Trumpington: A Cambridgeshire Village by Edith Carr traces the many changes that have occurred to this village from its original habitation in pre-Roman times until the end of the nineteenth century. She tells of the arrival of the Norman barons after the Conquest and of the many famous family names associated with the manors, mediaeval justice, the clergy, the enclosures and numerous other facets that deeply affected village life. A Wheelwright of Hoxne: A Story of Country Life by Betty Rutterford tells of the childhood, around the turn of the century, and later life of her husband, Aubrey Leggett. It recalls tt o toil in the saw-pit and the lighter moments of the magic lantern show and the visiting German Band. Life was hard but enjoyed to the full by this wheelwright of Hoxne. Culford Hall: near Bury St Edmund- is the story of a manor house written by r--rtrude Storey. Between the visit of Edward I in 1292 and that of Edward VII more than six hundred years later the Bacon, Cornwallis and Cadogan families had improved the estate almost beyond recognition. The Hall itself was built in 1591, but had been altered extensively over the years and even more so recently since its occupation in 1935 by Culford School. Size: 8vo.

White cloth covered boards with bright gilt titling on spine. No ownership inscription. Illustrations / Photographs.176 pages clean and tight. BLACKBURN'S ISLE. A story of the convict settlement at Botany Bay David Blackburn, a quiet unassuming man of Norfolk descent, was Master of H.M.S. Armed Tender Supply when it joined the fleet to sail from Portsmouth to Botany Bay in 1787. Transportation abroad as punishment for various crimes was Government policy at the time and this book based on David Blackburn's recently discovered letters home describe vividly the comparative ease of the long journey and the first convict settlement in Botany Bay. Ships later continued on to survey Norfolk and Lord Howe Islands and Blackburn was honoured that a small isle off the latter received his name, although this fell into disuse and was only restored through the efforts of the author, whose interest in Blackburn's letters was aroused merely in the course of casual conversation. Dustjacket painting by Roger Finch Size: 8vo.
