Publicado por Peterson's Charles Dickens in uniform duodecimo format. This is Nicholas Nickleby, complete in 1 vol. Brown cloth, blind-stamp devices on front board and the spine, gilt for the spine titles only. Firm binding, but front cover has some white marks from either paint or correction fluid, which don't come off (we tried). Small break at top front gutter, and worn at both head and tail-bands, though they are still present. Book block is firm and the engraved prelims are present and pleasant, though they 'ghosted' onto the title page. As-is antiquarian book, the Peoples American Edition, and carries no date of issue, but is ca. 1860s. n.d., 1860

The book has a bindery defect, with missing section, pages 285 to 309. In that day, books were gathered by hand, and this one has 2 copies of pages 282-288, and lacks pages 288 to 304. An earlier noticed and put an errata slip in for the "missprint" !.

Text in English; 40pp; printed on rather brittle paper, pencilled underlinings and notes particularly to the first story, small tears to inner margin to title and last last leaf, caused by the staples used to bind the book. 8vo (8.5in x 6in) orig. orange brown printed boards, peacock on front cover, some wear to extremities, slight water stain on back cover, An edition of the Happy Prince, Selfish Giant and the Devoted Friend printed in Poland. Wilde's Christian name is spelt "Oskar" on the front cover, but is correct on the title. We have been unable to trace another copy of this edition, which presumably is pirated, in printed or online catalogues.

Three preliminary leaves (title-page, half-title, contents) followed by twenty-six [hand-numbered ?] pages of poetry, one blank leaf, and colophon leaf ("Twenty five copies of this book printed from/ Caslon type on Van Gelder paper/ during the damp days of/ August 1933"). The anonymous author is Leslie Clarence Dunn, the geneticist who replaced T.H. Morgan at Columbia University in 1929. The presentation inscription in ink on the front inner cover reads: "For EWS/ with all due humility/ LCD;" EWS is almost surely Edmund Ware Sinnott, professor of botany at Barnard College in 1933 and one of Dunn's co-authors of the important work, Principles of Genetics (New York, 1925).
