Hardcover (Original Cloth). Condición: Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Fair. First Edition. 183 pp., black and white frontispiece of Carlyle by J. Whistler. Illustrated dustwrapper. Traces of foxing around the edges of the book, and a small stain at the bottom of the front edge. The dustwrapper is chipped, and has several tears, the major ones being on the back panel, and along the bottom of the back spine gutter. Today Carlyle's doctrines are largely out of date and the volume of his work deters many from reading it. But if opinions date, art is timeless, and is Carlyle the historian and writer whom Dr Trevelyan shows us in the selection. His power lay in his imaginative grasp of persons, situations and events, and if by modern standards his history is defective in scholarship, it is a striking example of history written the least possible amount of prejudice. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. We are happy to provide pictures of this book on request Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: Under 1 kilo. Category: History; Inventory No: 0201726.
