Book itself is slightly rolled with a touch of edgewear, bears a tiny seller's fiche from Brisbane, otherwise sound, and entirely clean and unmarked. Hardcover. The brief preface is unpaginated, numbered leaves continue to the end, each leaf an alkaline insert on glazed stock, of which eleven are in color. Printed rectos only. No Nolan, next to nothing strictly modernist. Hardbound first edition, 9.5x6 inch grey-blue papered boards with white backstrip spine-titled black. Laid in is a neatly cut fragment of a long-gone dust jacket, a color plate. Textblock materials are in excellent shape. Casing is presentable but damaged; an impact to tail of rear cover has dented the lower margin and split the rear joint some three inches, more an aesthetic than structural problem, item remains sound, easy to handle, cleanly and unmarked within. As is, a fair to good copy. FYI, paintings by Van Gogh, Matisse and Gauguin also shown, one each; evidently "Australian art" includes examples washed up on a museum shore.

Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: No Dust Jacket. Various Ilustrador. First Edition. introduction by editor. The text is illustrated with numerous black and white reproductions of various artists works with the occasional colour plate, and a small black-and-white photograph or black-and-white illustration of each artist represented. Illustrated boards, with a dull green background and small white illustrations to the boards and white titles to the backstrip. " This book contains selections from the work of thirteen artists at present living in Australia. For a quarter of a century I have helped to make Australian artists better known in this country through art books and publications. The Australian public is now familiar with most of the paintings which have been continually published in reproductions during the last 25 years. The value of art publication in Australia is that it makes the artist's work known beyond each State. Even art exhibitions do not penetrate beyond cities, and few exhibitions are sent out of the country. The value of a book is that it can be sent anywhere. Now in this book I am introducing paintings and sculptures by artists, many of whom are not generally known throughout Australia. For the Australian public these artists can be almost looked upon as a new crop." -- from the introduction Page 7. The artists represented William Dobell, Russell Drysdale, Frank Medworth, Daphne Mayo, Donald Friend, Joshua Smith, Adrian Feint, Douglas Annand, Eric Wilson, Elaine Haxton and Peter Purves Smith.
