Clipped jacket with heavy edge wear, large tears and chipping, causing loss around edges and spine. Heavy tanning and creasing, with rubbing and marking.

Printed paper boards, pale blue cloth spine, paper label on the spine and a spare label inside rear cover, tipped in, errata leaf facing page 1 with the Nash to Smirks correction on pages 102/3 + the inclusion of "Mowbray" to poem at page 119 denoting the first issue. The boards are a little dusty and mildly faded mainly at edges in, cloth spine handled and a little dull, but all firm, no splits, slight wear to head of spine, minor. some very light spotting to prelims and last page. Inserted is a "Proof review" by Brian Housden that was in the "New Society" in 1977 when the reprint was issued, it has a few manuscript corrections. It says Betjeman used to have the worst table manners, slurping soup from a plate at a house in Dublin. Small octavo. 18 x 12.5 cm.
