Hardcover. Condición: Good. Published on the Aldine press. Oribasii Sardinia Synopseos ad eustathium filium libri novem: Quibus tota medicina in compendium redacta continetur: Ioanne Baptista Rasario novariensi medico interprete. My rough translation is: Orabasius of Sardinia Synopsis for his son Eustatius: For whom the entire art of healing is compiled/reduced/composed: Edited by the physician Joanne Baptista Rosario. A rare antiquarian medical volume, circa 1554. A hardcover volume bound in yellow boards. The title is painted in black ink on the spine. Pages numbered on the recto only, 1-216 (so 432 pages as we would now count them). Text is in Latin. Spine is chipped on the crown and foot, and has a 1 inch tear on the crown, exposing the stitches below. It has darkened with age, as have the edges of both covers. Corners of the boards are bumped, and the covers have some marks from rubbing. The bottom inch of the title page has been snipped off. Colophon is dated 1554 The front hinge is split. With writing in pencil and faded ink marks on the front attached endpaper. A blue label is pasted to the top left corner of the front endpaper: Il Polifilo via Borgonuovo 3, Milano. Pages are clean and unmarked, lightly toned and foxed with age. Text block is sturdy and strong. Orabasius of Sardinia was the personal physician to Julian the Philosopher. He was banished at Julian s death, around 300 AD. Printed on the Aldine press in italic type with the large Anchor and Dolphin emblem on the title page.
