Original Decorative Wraps. Condición: Very Good. No Jacket. First Edition. Dark yellow, thick paper for the wraps. Decorative cover with lettering in black with red Maori decorations and a Maori club (stick) with a mask. Soiling along the spine and lower edge. Contents are very good. Overall good+. Laid in are two promotional brochures which date from about the same time. One is for a trip to the Waitomo Caves and the "World Famed Glow-worm Grotto'. The Waitomo Hotel Tariff was one pound sterling/day. (According to the web site, a queen sized bed is $140.00/day) The second brochue "New Zealand, A World in Itself! was printed in Los Angeles and I am only speculating but was probably picked up before the previous owner embarked on a trip there. It is interesting to read this. It was a relatively early attempt to attract tourism to the region and the booklet was published just a year before war broke out in Europe.

Colorful chromolithographic full back postcard, franked Wellington 28 February 1903. A smiling young Maori woman at the right holding a pendant necklace; in the background more Maoris stand at the entrance to the kainga (pre-European Maori settlement) and a lake and mountains in the far distance. Elaborate Maori inspired designs by G.N. Sturtevant decorate the full back. St. bumped & marked, overall very good. 3 1/2 x 5 1/4", addressed to England, with a one penny New Zealand stamp, canceled.
