A copy with a Publisher's variant binding and probably bound up later than the usual, more decorative binding with "second edition" blocked to the spine. Pp. [2], xxvi, 271, [4]; large fold out map, in text and plate illustrations throughout by Lodge and others. Green cloth binding good, repair to head of the front joint, cloth a little marked and some rubbing to extremities. Contents good and tight, no foxing, tan end-papers browned and a little chipped at fore-edge and hinge, which has been repaired to the front. A good copy in a variant binding. Size: 8vo. Book.

Chapman needs little introduction - war time hero and ornithologisht with an extraordinary story: for over three years during the second world war, he "blew up trains, bridges and enemy soldiers in the jungles of Malaya, all the while studying birdlife and sending home seeds".)
