Color illustration on front cover of two boys playing "Cowboys and Indians," in respective costumes. The one playing the "cowboy" has lassoed the boy playing the "Indian," who screams in anguish. 10 1/4" x 14." Forty-four pages, complete. Illustrations in black-and-white and color, complete. Advertisements interspersed throughout, some of which are illustrated in black-and-white or color. Former owner's name and address stamped in purple ink in upper-left margin of front cover. Pages and covers are very clean and intact overall. Pages and covers have light age toning, minimal wrinkling, and slight wear at the extremities. Front cover and the first few pages have a small dampstain in lower-right corner. Back cover has a closed tear measuring about 2" from fore-edge. A Very Good copy. The August 1928 issue of the Modern Priscilla. "Combined with Home Needlework Magazine and Everyday Housekeeping" printed on title page. The Modern Priscilla was a magazine that focused on needlecraft, housekeeping, and similar subjects. The magazine was founded in 1887 and was published until 1930. In addition to domestic subjects, the Modern Priscilla included features such as news articles and short fiction. Many of the patterns referenced in the Modern Priscilla had to be purchased separately. The following are some of the features in this issue: "Quilting After the Modern Manner," "Ensembles in Wild Rose Linens," "For the Buffet and Luncheon Table" [tablecloths], "Distinguished by a Smart Simplicity" [latest fashions], "Good Values in Midsummer Sales" [summer-themed pattern ideas], "Summery Luncheon Sets Simply Made," "This Is the Dining Room at The Old House" [home restoration story], "For variety and zest try ham dishes" [includes recipes], "Ice cream made at home is popular" [includes recipe], "Porch Luncheons Men Will Like," "What Should Your Children Eat?," "Special Recipes from the Proving Plant," "Favorite Old Quilt Blocks," "Simple Procedures in Summer Housework," "Cabinets and Cupboards for Storage," "Reader Recipes," "New in Felts," and "The Scrap Bag: Odds and ends of information that everyone can use." The ads promote different businesses, products, and services including Crisco, Campbell's Vegetable Soup, Listerine, Autostat, Camel cigarettes, Canned Hawaiian Pineapple, Kotex, Chipso, and Bon Ami.
