Manuscrito
p, 12mo. Bifolium. In good condition, lightly aged. Folded twice. The recipient is not named. Addressed to 'Révérend et cher Monsieur'. Sixteen neatly-written lines of text. He thanks him 'mille fois' for the number of the 'Day of Rest'. He has read the recipient's article, as well as that of 'Madame Hunt', but he is sorry 'de n'être pas assez versé dans la connaissance de la langue anglaise, pour pouvoir apprécier vos écrits comme ils le méritent'. He hopes to make progress, and is at present reading the recipient's piece in the Contemporary Review, 'qui m'intéresse beaucoup'. He would be willing to send 'M. Straham [sic, for Alexander Strahan]' his piece on 'la Situation religieuse de la France', for publication on 1 January 1874. He asks to be remembered to Strahan, whose cordial treatment of him touched him deeply. He ends with further warm remembrances, included in which is 'Madame Hunt'. In 1872, in protest against the 1868 Vatican Council and the doctrine of Papal Infallibility, Michaud had begun to ally himself with Ignaz von Döllinger, and the Old Catholic movement in Munich.
