The former governor and representative's rousing, indignant speech rebuking an attempt to move Kentucky's capital from Frankfort to Lexington, signed boldly by Knott (with "Compliments of" added) across the top of the front cover. Knott (1830-1911) served Kentucky as representative (1867-71, 1875-83), governor (1883-87) and professor and first dean of Centre College law school (1894-1901).
