Binding sound with the exception of the four pages containing the foreword and the contents which have become detached and are just loosely inserted. Previous owner's name to ffep. Small amount of tanning to endpapers. No dust jacket. Three full page colour illustrations by Frank E. Schoonover, decorated endpapers and various line drawings. There is a foundation of fact underlying most of these adventures; either the stories are based on actual happenings or are events that might well have taken place in those days when there were so many Salem pepper ships off the coast of Sumatra that the Malays thought Salem was a country by itself.
