First edition. Octavo. pp [iv], 237, [5] adverts. Adverts also on front endpapers and in a few places in the text. Cloth-backed boards. Hundreds of recipes for European and Indian dishes, preceded by a section of advice on how to run a household in India including treatment of the servants (e.g. on the Ayah: ''Unlike the other servants who are not fed, this lady demands bread and tea in the morning and in the afternoon. She is generally very lazy and is seldom virtuous.''). Inside the front cover is the small ticket of Selfridge's in London which suggests the book was originally purchased before the voyage to India.Covers rubbed and tanned with some loss to the paper on the front board. Good, internally very good. Very scarce.
