Very good clean tight sound square, no bookplate, inscription or ownership marks of any kind, light sporadic foxing limited to prelims and foreedges, top edge gilt, rest attractively untrimmed. Bound in gilt lettered beige cloth boards now housed and protected in removable transparent mylar wrapper. The phrase Where are the snows of yesteryear is one of the most famous lines of translated poetry in the Englishspeaking world. It is the refrain in The Ballad of Dead Ladies, Dante Gabriel Rossettis translation of Villons 1461 Ballade des Dames du Temps Jadis. In the original the line is: Mais o sont les neiges dantan But where are the snows of yesteryear.
