Leather. Condición: Good. None Ilustrador. A thirteenth volume set of dramtic works by the renaissance writing duo Francis Beaumont and John Fletcher. A thirteen volume set. Incomplete, sadly lacking volume II. Featuring the dramatics works of Francis Beaumont and John Fletcher. The worked collaboratively on numerous plays including 'The Woman Hater', 'The Maid's Tragedy', and 'Love's Pilgrimage'. The pair began writing for children, and later progresses to writing for The King's Men, the group to which Shakespeare belonged for many years. There were believed to have lived together until Beaumont's marriage. The pairs creating relationship ended when Beaumont became ill in the early 17th century. John Fletcher in particular is well recognised as a successor of Shakespeare in regards to his position in the King's Men. After the death of Shakespeare, Fletcher would go on to write for the company until his own death in 1625. Volumes III to XIV are in a uniform half binding, with marbled paper covered boards. Each of these volumes have the label of Trinity College Library to the rear board. Volume I is in a different binding and appears to have been taken from a different collection. This volume has the bookplate of John Cannon to the front pastedown. All but volume I are in a uniform half calf binding, whilst volume I (appear to have originally belonged in a different set) is n a full calf binding. Externally rubbed, particularly to the head and tail of the spine, heavier to volume XIV. Rubbing tot the spine and raised bands of each volume. This has resulting in both loss and damage to the volumes, with volumes III, VI, VIII, and X lacking one or more of their spine labels. Institutional labels of the tail of all but one volume, with a patch of loss to the tail of volume III. |Bookplates and institutional pencil notations to the front pastedown of each volume. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are generally clean with the occasional spot throughout. Good. book.

Librería: Alcuin Books, ABAA/ILAB, Scottsdale, AZ, Estados Unidos de America
Folio. Second collected edition. What was rather stunning is during this time, 1679, Henry Herringman, Richard Marriot and John Martyn financed a new edition of plays under the braced names of Francis Beaumont and John Fletcher. They resequenced the plays choosing to open the edition with The Maid's Tragedy, Philaster, and A King and No King. Their decision to situate these plays at the beginning was informed by the success of all three on stage during the seventeenth century and was the major way scholars have studied the plays for the next three centuries. This edition also includes the first folio appearance of The Two Noble Kinsmen which is also attributed to Shakespeare though not found in the Shakespeare folios. The most important early edition of written Francis Beaumont and John Fletcher with 18 plays not found in the first edition where they announce that they are gentleman producing the plays "all in one volume; published by the authors original copies, the songs to each play being added." It is this 2nd folio which Cyrus Hay calls "the canon of Beaumont and Fletcher. [References: Woodward, G.L. Check list of English plays, 1641-1700,; 35; Carl H.
