Hard Cover. Condición: Near Fine. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good. A great book. Not only are there quotations from historical figures but there is the history of the quotes. Book is in nice shape. Binding is tight and gilt printing on front is bright. Gilt on spine has light rubbing. Light shelf wear. Prior owner's name on front flyleaf. DJ has minor rubbing and edge wear. Long closed tear across front, minor soiling of back. Time Tested Books has been located in the same place and owned by the same people for over 20 years. We have an excellent rep. We also have tens of thousands of titles in stock and are an open shop, so when in the Sacramento area, stop in.

Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. No Jacket. This wonderful book deserves a high place in the pantheon of historical works, though it is largely forgotten today. The author assembles famous, or at least, striking sayings from historical events or works of history and then writes a paragraph or two about the context in which the saying was uttered. In this way, he converts mere platitudes into revealing commentary, often as revealing about the utterer as the subject of the utterance. He has also created a unique and useful system of cross-reference so that differing observations may be compared. This copy is in Very Good condition. No dust jacket is present. The book is square and solid -- the spine is not cracked and there are no loose pages. It is spotless inside, with lightly tanned pages. The exterior front and back covers are clean except for a single faint whitish scratch or mark on the back cover. The spine, on the other hand, is slightly soiled, somewhat discolored from sun exposure and shows some evidence of water droplets. Two corners of the back cover are very lightly bumped, the front corners are sharp. There is virtually no rub wear. A very nice copy of an interesting and somewhat scarce book. We will pack it with bubble-wrap and ship it in a sturdy box to ensure safe delivery.
